The homebuilding comeback anticipated this year didn’t happen.

High expectations were built around views that demand would finally spike after years of post-recessionary lethargy among traditional buyers.

“2014 was a big disappointment,” said Brad Hunter, chief economist at Metrostudy, a unit of Hanley Wood that studies the homebuilding sector.
